Hoping to rebound after letdown, Mariners take on A's
The playoff-contending Seattle Mariners and host Oakland Athletics open the first of two series over the final four weeks of the season on Monday afternoon. The Mariners will be continuing a 10-game trip when they seek to bounce back from the disappointment of consecutive one-run losses against the Los Angeles Angels. The Mariners suffered a 5-4 walk-off loss on Saturday and a 3-2 defeat Sunday, leaving them six games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West and 5 1/2 out of the final AL wild-card berth. Seattle will get an opportunity to make up ground with 14 of its last 25 games against teams under .500, including seven against the A's -- four this week in Oakland and three to complete the regular season in Seattle.

"You get down two there (in) extra innings, you've got your hands full with one of the best closers in the game."

Oakland A's lose another heartbreaker to finish six-game road trip
Oakland A's right-hander Mason Miller might have established himself as one of the American League's premier closers during the first five months of the regular season. Josh Jung hit a three-run homer off Miller in the 10th inning to lead the Texas Rangers past the A's 6-4 on Sunday. The loss marked the second straight time a walk-off hit bit the A's, as Leody Taveras hit a game-ending single with one out in the ninth inning in the Rangers' 3-2 win over Oakland on Saturday.

In 1979, the Oakland Athletics were a 108-loss team with no resemblance to the dynasty Charlie Finley had built just a few years prior. Ten years later, the Athletics were once again the best team in baseball. Today we'll take a look at how the Athletics pushed speed and power to new heights in Part IV -- Bash! One of the few highlights from the Athletics' Kansas City era was the base-stealing exploits of Bert Campaneris.
