Oakland right-hander Trevor Gott had Tommy surgery and will miss the season. The Athletics said Gott was operated on by Texas Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas. Gott is 16-15 with a 4.65 ERA in 255 relief appearances with the Los Angeles Angels, Washington, San Francisco, Milwaukee, Seattle and the New York Mets.

Nick Pivetta joined with four relievers on an eight-hit shutout, Kenley Jansen pitched out of a ninth-inning jam and the visiting Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a 1-0 victory Wednesday afternoon. Enmanuel Valdez lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning for the game's only run, allowing Pivetta (1-1) to earn the win in a pitchers' duel with Oakland's Ross Stripling (0-2).

The San Francisco Chronicle reported the ballclub is “seriously considering” a temporary relocation to Sacramento.

The Boston Red Sox were put to the extra-innings challenge (again), this time tasked with outlasting the scrappy Oakland Athletics on the road, which didn't come easy. Keeping Oakland ahead at 4-3 through Boston's three-scoreless-inning stretch heading into the seventh inning, the window was open for a late-game rally, which came at just the right time. Then there's the involvement of Sacramento, which has entered the fray on some level with the idea of a being a temporary home at Sutter Health Park — home of the Triple-A River Cats — until Las Vegas becomes a reality.

The Oakland Athletics are off to a slow start in 2024 with a 1-4 record through five games. One player did well to start the new season, but he's not being rewarded for it. Esteury Ruiz, one of the top young players in the organization, went 3-for-7 with a triple and one RBI during the A's opening series against the Cleveland Guardians. The outfielder's .429 average was the best on the team — until he wasn't on the team anymore.

(KPIX-TV)- Oakland Athletics fans will probably not be surprised to hear that team officials weren't brimming with optimism after meeting with Oakland and Alameda County representatives about a possible extension to the A's lease at the Coliseum. Over the past weekend, news surfaced that Oakland city officials would present the A's with an offer that would extend the baseball team's current lease, which is set to run out at the end of this season.

It's been years since the Detroit Tigers kicked off a Major League Baseball season as strongly as they have in 2024.
